Modeling Dynamics and Control I
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this first-term course in modeling, analysis, and control of dynamic systems, aimed at mechanical engineering students. Topics include mechanical translation and uniaxial rotation, electrical circuits, and their coupling through levers, gears, and electro-mechanical devices. Students work through analytical and computational solutions of linear differential equations, state-determined systems, Laplace transforms, transfer functions, frequency response, and Bode plots. Later sessions cover vibrations, modal analysis, open- and closed-loop control, instability, time-domain controller design, and an introduction to frequency-domain control techniques, illustrated with case studies of real engineering applications. Materials include lecture notes, assignments, and exams typical of MIT OCW courses, free to access with no certificate offered. The course sets up the second term in the sequence, which continues into more advanced control design.
