MIT OpenCourseWare's second-term sequel to its dynamics and control course covers the kinematics and dynamics of mechanical systems, including rigid bodies in plane motion, linear and angular momentum principles, and impact and collision problems. It moves into linearization about equilibrium, free and forced vibrations, and the sensors and actuators used to control mechanical systems. Control design gets substantial treatment: integral and derivative action, lead and lag compensators, root-locus methods, and frequency-domain design, applied to case studies of multi-domain systems. Materials include lecture notes, assignments, and exams typical of MIT OCW offerings, free to access with no certificate. The course assumes the first-term subject as a prerequisite and suits students who already have a working grasp of basic dynamics and want to move into vibration analysis and feedback control of mechanical systems.
