Modern Algebra
This MIT OpenCourseWare course covers traditional algebra topics with the widest application in science, engineering, and mathematics itself, including group theory, rings, fields, and vector spaces along with their structural properties and symmetries. Materials include lecture notes, problem sets with solutions, and exams drawn from an actual MIT undergraduate offering, letting a self-study student work through the same assignments as enrolled students. The emphasis stays on building facility with abstract structures and proofs rather than computation alone, preparing students for further work in pure or applied mathematics. As with all MIT OCW offerings, there is no instructor interaction or certificate, but all course materials are free to access and use under a Creative Commons license.
