MIT OpenCourseWare presents this introduction to programming and numerical methods for mechanical engineers. The course starts with basic programming concepts, including variable types, data structures, and flow control, then reviews linear algebra and probability. From there it covers numerical techniques including interpolation, least squares and statistical regression, numerical integration, and solving linear and nonlinear equations and ordinary differential equations, using both deterministic and probabilistic approaches. Examples are drawn from robotics, dynamics, and structural analysis, grounding the math in mechanical engineering problems.
