Ocean Wave Interaction with Ships and Offshore Energy Systems
MIT OpenCourseWare's graduate course on ocean surface waves and their effects on ships and offshore structures, originally offered as 13.022 in the Department of Ocean Engineering and later renumbered 2.24 under Mechanical Engineering. The course develops linear and nonlinear wave theory for deterministic and random seas, then applies it to naval architecture and offshore engineering problems: the Kelvin wave pattern and wave resistance of ships, seakeeping of ships and high-speed vessels, interaction of waves with floating bodies, and drift forces on compliant offshore platforms and their mooring systems used in deepwater hydrocarbon recovery. Materials include lecture notes and problem sets following MIT's standard OCW format, free to access with no certificate offered.
