Physics of Solids I
This MIT OpenCourseWare course introduces the quantum theory of solids, covering the free electron model, crystal structures and lattices, band theory, semiconductors, and the physics behind electrical and thermal properties of materials. Topics include Bloch's theorem, Fermi surfaces, phonons, and the behavior of electrons in periodic potentials, building toward an understanding of why materials behave as metals, insulators, or semiconductors.
