Structural Mechanics
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this course on applying solid mechanics to the analysis of high-technology and aerospace structures. Topics include a review of three-dimensional elasticity theory covering stress, strain, anisotropic materials, and heating effects, two-dimensional plane stress and plane strain problems, torsion theory for arbitrary sections, bending of unsymmetrical sections and mixed material beams, and bending, shear, and torsion of thin-wall shell beams. The course also covers buckling of columns and stability phenomena, along with an introduction to structural dynamics. Materials include lecture notes and design exercises applying these concepts to general and aerospace structures. Offered through MIT's Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the course is free to access online with no certificate offered, in keeping with MIT OpenCourseWare's standard format.
