Probability and Statistics in Engineering
MIT OpenCourseWare presents this course on quantitative analysis of uncertainty and risk for engineering applications. Topics include fundamentals of probability, random processes, and decision analysis, along with random variables and vectors, uncertainty propagation, conditional distributions, and second-moment analysis. The course introduces system reliability, Bayesian analysis, risk-based decision making, estimation of distribution parameters, hypothesis testing, simple and multiple linear regression, and Poisson and Markov processes. Real-world engineering problems anchor the material throughout, from civil and environmental engineering contexts. Materials include lecture notes, assignments, and exams from MIT's Civil and Environmental Engineering department, freely available through MIT OpenCourseWare with no enrollment or certificate cost attached.
