Quantum Physics III
Barton Zwiebach's continuation of MIT's quantum mechanics sequence covers the model systems that anchor contemporary physics: two-dimensional electron systems, the fine structure of hydrogen, laser theory, and particle scattering. The course builds directly on 8.05 Quantum Physics II and its lecture notes formed the basis for Zwiebach's textbook Mastering Quantum Mechanics, published by MIT Press in 2022. The course assumes familiarity with the earlier two courses in the sequence and pushes into the calculations physicists actually use, working through scattering cross sections and fine-structure corrections rather than staying at a conceptual level.
