MIT OpenCourseWare offers this advanced electrical engineering course on detecting and measuring radio and optical signals used in communications, astronomy, remote sensing, and radar. Topics include statistical analysis of signal processing systems such as radiometers, spectrometers, interferometers, and digital correlation systems, matched filters and ambiguity functions, communications channel performance, measurement of random electromagnetic fields, antenna angular filtering, interferometer and aperture synthesis systems, and radiative transfer with parameter estimation. Materials follow MIT's standard OCW format of lecture notes, problem sets, and readings drawn from the original MIT course, licensed under Creative Commons for free use. No certificate is offered, but the full curriculum is available for self-study, aimed at students who already have a background in signals and electromagnetics and want to move into applied instrumentation and detection theory.
