Special relativity forms the core of this MIT OpenCourseWare course, normally taken by physics majors in their sophomore year. Lectures and problem sets cover Einstein's postulates, the Lorentz transformation, and the relativistic effects and paradoxes that follow from them, including time dilation and length contraction, with applications to electromagnetism and particle physics. The course closes with a brief introduction to general relativity, covering the principle of equivalence, the Schwarzschild metric and black holes, and the FRW metric used in cosmology. Materials include lecture notes, assignments, and exams from MIT's undergraduate physics curriculum, free to access through OpenCourseWare with no certificate offered. The course assumes prior exposure to classical mechanics and electromagnetism and moves through the standard derivations rather than a popular treatment of the subject.
