Technologies for Creative Learning
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this course on designing educational technologies and creative learning environments, built around case studies like the LEGO Programmable Brick, Scratch software, and the Computer Clubhouse after-school network. Students work through hands-on activities with new learning tools, then step back to reflect on those experiences and connect them to broader design principles. Discussion sessions examine what makes a technology genuinely support creative learning rather than just deliver content, drawing on the Media Lab's research tradition. The course materials include readings, activity assignments, and case study documentation covering the reasoning behind tools built for informal, exploratory learning settings. It suits students interested in educational technology design, learning sciences, or the history of constructionist approaches to computing education. As with other MIT OCW offerings, materials are free to access under a Creative Commons license, with no certificate or instructor interaction included.
