The NEET Experience
MIT's SP.248 introduces first-year engineering students to the New Engineering Education Transformation (NEET) program's four interdisciplinary threads: autonomous machines, climate and sustainability systems, digital cities, and living machines. Students meet NEET faculty, instructors, and current participants, and work in teams on short challenges drawn from each domain to practice algorithmic, creative, and systems thinking. The course functions as an orientation and sampler rather than a deep technical sequence, letting students test which thread fits their interests before committing to a NEET concentration. Materials on MIT OpenCourseWare include the syllabus and assignment descriptions for the team challenges. No certificate is offered; this is an open courseware archive of MIT's own class materials, free to use for self-study.
