MIT OpenCourseWare offers this half-term subject on the design, operation, and management of traffic flow across complex transportation networks. The curriculum covers two major areas: traffic flow modeling and traffic flow operations, with sub-topics including deterministic and probabilistic models, elements of queuing theory, and traffic assignment. Concepts are illustrated through applications and case studies drawn from real transportation systems. Materials come from MIT's Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Systems Division and include lecture notes and assignments typical of MIT OCW offerings. The course is aimed at advanced students already familiar with basic transportation engineering concepts who want to move into quantitative modeling of network flows. As with all MIT OpenCourseWare content, materials are free to access and no certificate is offered.
