MIT OpenCourseWare offers this advanced course on device and circuit level optimization of digital building blocks. Topics include MOS device models with deep sub-micron effects, circuit design styles for logic, arithmetic, and sequential blocks, estimation and minimization of energy consumption, interconnect models and parasitics, device sizing and logical effort, timing issues such as clock skew and jitter, active clock distribution, memory architectures and circuits including sense amplifiers, and testing of integrated circuits. The course relies heavily on circuit layout work and SPICE simulation through design projects and software labs, giving students hands-on practice alongside the theory. Course materials come from MIT's electrical engineering and computer science curriculum and are free to access, following the standard OCW model of open lecture notes and assignments without live instruction.
