Classical Mechanics III
An advanced physics course from MIT OpenCourseWare covering Lagrangian and Hamiltonian mechanics, systems with constraints, rigid body dynamics, vibrations, and central forces. The syllabus continues into Hamilton-Jacobi theory, action-angle variables, perturbation theory, and continuous systems, then introduces ideal and viscous fluid mechanics, including turbulence, and nonlinear dynamics, including chaos. Materials follow MIT OCW's standard format of lecture notes, problem sets, and exams drawn from the actual course as taught on campus, with no instructor video lectures required to work through the content. The course assumes prior mechanics coursework and is aimed at students who already know Newtonian formulations and want the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian machinery used throughout modern theoretical physics.
