Fundamentals of Physics I
Ramamurti Shankar's full recorded Yale lecture course on Newtonian mechanics, special relativity, gravitation, thermodynamics, and waves, filmed on campus in Fall 2006. The 24 sessions run from vectors and Newton's laws through rotations, the Lorentz transformation and four-vectors, simple harmonic motion, fluid statics, and the two laws of thermodynamics, each posted as full video with a linked transcript. Shankar, Yale's John Randolph Huffman Professor of Physics, wrote the companion textbook the lectures are based on. There is one in-class midterm and a final, both included, plus weekly homework due each Wednesday. It is the first course in Yale's Open Yale Courses physics sequence and requires solid prior preparation in physics and calculus.
