MIT OpenCourseWare offers this introduction to architectural design through computation, covering CAD drawing, 3-D modeling, rendering and digital fabrication. Students build computer models that develop into a full package of architectural explorations, working each semester on a particular building type and material. The course also studies the design processes of selected architects and takes a critical look at design principles and building production methods. Materials include assignments graded on design quality, representation and constructability, giving students a structured path from digital sketch to fabricated output. The course is aimed at students with no prior design computing background and emphasizes hands-on model-making alongside conceptual discussion of architectural production. As with other MIT OCW offerings, course materials are free to access, with no certificate offered.
