Introduction to Modeling and Simulation
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this introduction to computational modeling across continuum methods, atomistic and molecular simulation, and quantum mechanics. Lectures connect each technique to real engineering problems in materials, structures, and reactors, drawing on faculty from Materials Science, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Nuclear Science. Simulations run through web based applets rather than custom code, so the course does not require extensive programming background. Materials include lecture notes, problem sets, and simulation exercises that let students test how continuum, atomistic, and quantum approaches diverge or agree on the same physical system. The course is free to access through MIT OpenCourseWare, with no certificate offered, in keeping with OCW's open publication of MIT course materials rather than a monitored online class.
