Introduction to Neuroscience
A survey of the nervous system from MIT OpenCourseWare, covering brain anatomy and development, the cell biology of neurons and glia, ion channels and electrical signaling, and synaptic transmission and integration. The course moves through the chemical systems of the brain, sensory transduction and perception, motor systems, and higher functions including memory, language, and affective disorders. Materials include lecture notes, readings, and assignments drawn from MIT's own graduate-level curriculum, freely available under a Creative Commons license. There is no instructor interaction or graded certificate, but the full set of course materials lets a self-directed learner work through the same content MIT students use, from molecular signaling up through cognition.
