MIT OpenCourseWare offers this advanced course on numerical techniques for chemical engineering problems in heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, chemical reaction engineering, and molecular simulation. Topics include numerical linear algebra, solving nonlinear algebraic equations and ordinary differential equations, and methods for partial differential equations such as Navier-Stokes. The course also covers numerical approaches used in molecular simulation, including molecular dynamics and geometry optimization. Every method is taught within the context of real chemical engineering problems rather than as abstract mathematics. The course assumes familiarity with structured programming. Materials come from MIT's OpenCourseWare archive, drawn from actual course content, and are free to access with no certificate offered. Suited to students who already have a chemical engineering and programming background and want to apply computational tools to core process problems.
