Physical Chemistry: Quantum Mechanics
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this introduction to quantum mechanics designed for chemistry students. The course covers particles and waves, wave mechanics, semi-classical quantum mechanics, matrix mechanics, perturbation theory, molecular orbital theory, molecular structure, molecular spectroscopy, and photochemistry. Rather than emphasizing abstract formalism alone, the material builds intuitive pictures for how these quantum concepts explain molecular behavior. Materials include lecture notes, problem sets, and exams typical of MIT's OCW offerings, letting learners work through the same content used in MIT's classroom courses. The course assumes familiarity with basic chemistry and prepares students to connect quantum theory directly to molecular structure and spectroscopy. As with other MIT OpenCourseWare courses, all materials are free to access and use under a Creative Commons license, with no certificate offered.
