Playful Augmented Reality Audio Design Exploration
MIT's Comparative Media Studies program offers this project based course on designing and testing augmented reality audio prototypes. Students build and evaluate systems that blend sound, games, and social interaction, exploring how physical and digital materials can be combined for playful or productive purposes. The course frames iterative design and rapid prototyping as research methods, pairing hands on prototyping with readings on the theoretical foundations of design exploration. Assignments center on building working audio prototypes, testing them with users, and reflecting on what the process reveals about creative possibilities in a still emerging medium. Materials include MIT OpenCourseWare readings, project briefs, and design exercises, free to access online with no certificate offered.
