Supply Chain Planning
MIT's Sloan School of Management course on designing and coordinating global supply chains, cross-listed with Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Institute for Data, Systems, and Society. Lectures, computer exercises, and case discussions cover models for supply chain analysis and optimization, including risk pooling, inventory placement, integrated planning and collaboration, and information sharing across partners. Students work through key tradeoffs that shape network design, such as centralizing inventory versus keeping it close to demand, and examine phenomena like the bullwhip effect that distort information as it moves through a chain. Materials available through MIT OpenCourseWare include lecture notes, assignments, and case studies used in the original graduate-level course, offered at no cost under MIT's open license.
