MIT Sloan School of Management offers a framework for analyzing high-tech businesses whose products are parts of, or made up of, larger systems. The course covers domains including computing, communications, mobile and IP networks, consumer electronics, industrial networking, automotive, aerospace and medical devices. Lectures and readings build mental models for thinking through the co-evolution of technological innovation, market demand, systems architecture, and business ecosystems, alongside decision-making and execution inside a firm. The material targets people who expect to manage, invest in, or advise technology-driven businesses, emphasizing strategic frameworks over specific technical skills. As with other MIT OpenCourseWare offerings, materials include syllabus, readings, and assignments published for free self-study, with no certificate offered. No prior enrollment or payment is required to access the content.
