The Brain and Cognitive Sciences I
A graduate-level survey from MIT covering the structure and function of the nervous system through molecular, cellular, and systems perspectives. Topics include nervous system development and connection formation, neuron cell biology, neurotransmitters and synaptic transmission, sensory systems, the neuro-endocrine system, the motor system, higher cortical functions, and the cellular basis of learning and memory. This is the first half of an intensive two-term sequence intended for first-year graduate students in brain and cognitive sciences. Materials on MIT OpenCourseWare include lecture notes, readings, and assignments drawn from the actual MIT course. No certificate is offered, but all course content is free to access and use under an open license.
