MIT OpenCourseWare offers this course examining how globalization and financial crises reshape international architecture, engineering, and construction. The material covers how the built environment functions as a global sector, the managerial, entrepreneurial, and professional opportunities and risks within it, and what distinguishes construction and design fields from other industries facing globalization. Lectures and discussions review best practices and lessons drawn from recent economic events, with attention to career implications for students entering architecture, engineering, and construction professions. The course draws on cross-disciplinary perspectives from civil and environmental engineering, urban studies and planning, and engineering systems. As with other MIT OCW offerings, materials include syllabus, readings, and assignments, free to access with no certificate offered. The course is aimed at students seeking to understand how global economic forces are restructuring the built environment industry.
