A graduate seminar from MIT covering current research in biophysics and physical biology. Weekly sessions center on close reading and critical discussion of primary scientific literature, led by rotating MIT faculty presenting their own active research areas. Alongside the research content, each meeting includes a short segment on professional skills: giving effective talks, writing papers and fellowship proposals, picking a viable research topic, managing time as a researcher, and navigating scientific ethics. The course materials available through MIT OpenCourseWare include the syllabus, session topics, and readings used to structure the discussions. There are no recorded lectures in the traditional sense; the format is built around faculty-led conversation rather than one-way instruction, reflecting how an active biophysics research group actually evaluates and argues about new findings.
