Advanced analog circuit design from MIT OpenCourseWare, built around paper designs of circuits like multiplexers, sample-and-holds, gain-controlled amplifiers, analog multipliers, digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converters, and power amplifiers. Classroom discussion introduces the relevant principles before each student works through the design problems individually. Each student presents one design to the class, and one design may be built and tested in the lab. Laboratory assignments focus on using modern analog building blocks in practice, connecting the paper designs to real component behavior. The course carries 12 Engineering Design Points at MIT, indicating a significant design workload. Materials come from MIT's electrical engineering curriculum and suit students who already have a foundation in analog circuits and want to move into open-ended design problems rather than fixed problem sets.
