A graduate-level MIT OpenCourseWare subject on electromagnetic wave theory, taught by MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The course emphasizes mathematical methods, problem solving, and physical interpretation of Maxwell's equations. Topics include waves in media, the equivalence principle, duality and complementarity, Huygens' principle, Fresnel and Fraunhofer diffraction, dyadic Green's functions, the Lorentz transformation, and Maxwell-Minkowski theory. Worked examples treat limiting cases of Maxwell's theory alongside diffraction and scattering problems. As with other MIT OCW offerings, the site provides lecture notes, problem sets, and course materials for self-study, free of charge and without a certificate. Suited to graduate students or advanced undergraduates with a solid background in electromagnetics and vector calculus.
