Introduction to Lean Six Sigma Methods
MIT OpenCourseWare's introduction to Lean Six Sigma, taught during the Independent Activities Period, MIT's four-week January term. The course covers the core principles and tools behind modern productivity methods used in aerospace, automotive, and health care organizations. Materials include lecture notes, active learning exercises, a plant tour, and talks by industry practitioners. About a third of the course centers on a physical simulation, either an aircraft manufacturing enterprise or a clinic, built to demonstrate how Lean Six Sigma tools change throughput and quality in practice. The course draws on MIT's Aeronautics and Astronautics and Engineering Systems Division faculty. Free to audit through MIT OpenCourseWare, with lecture materials and assignments available for self study; no certificate is offered.
