MIT OpenCourseWare offers the full materials for this hands-on energy course, which links clean energy generation and storage to real consumption case studies. Topics include photovoltaic, organic photovoltaic, piezoelectric and thermoelectric energy sources, applied to analytical techniques used in biology and chemistry such as electrophoresis, lab-on-a-chip devices, and paper microfluidics. Students fabricate LEDs, organic LEDs and spectrometers in laboratory sessions that double as diagnostic tools for measuring energy efficiency, connecting theoretical concepts to physical implementation with everyday materials and equipment. The course is an elective within MIT's undergraduate Energy Studies Minor and part of the OCW Energy Courses collection. Free to access through MIT OpenCourseWare under a Creative Commons license, it includes lab exercises and course materials but no formal certificate.
