Toy Product Design
MIT OpenCourseWare's project-centric class on designing toys for play and entertainment. Working in teams of five or six, students move through the full product design process: brainstorming, sketching, marker rendering, sketch modeling, concept development, prototyping, and design aesthetics, culminating in physical toy prototypes. The course also covers estimation and written, visual, and oral communication for presenting design work to others. Materials include the syllabus, assignments, and project guidelines from MIT's Department of Mechanical Engineering, offered as a Spring semester subject. It suits anyone curious about how toys move from a rough idea to a working model, with emphasis on hands-on making rather than pure theory. As with other MIT OCW offerings, the material is free to access with no certificate attached.
